Fishing in Taiwan

Fishing is a popular sport and activity and Taiwan and many foreigners and ESL teachers take part in it. It is a great way to make friends and build relationships with local coworkers. Fishing often takes place early in the morning or late at night and may involve copious amounts of drinking.

A great place to start is to ask the local teachers first. They are often much more avid then most ESL teachers in our experience and will most likely very much enjoy the experience of fishing with you. You can find fishing equipment by either asking around in the local foreign bar or going to an outdoor supply shop. Often times you will be able to get high quality fishing equipment from other foreigners who are departing as it is often a hassle to get fishing equipment home.

Be prepared to bring food and snacks as fishing could be an all night experience. We suggest that teachers partake in it at least once since it is a great way to really get to know someone and become friends with your local teachers.
