Taiwanese Currency

The currency of Taiwan is known as the New Taiwan Dollar, or abbreviated as NT$. The currency consists of both coins and notes. The denominations for coins are $1, $5, $10, $20, $50. The denominations for notes are $100, $500, $1000, and $5000. 


As of this writing $1 USD equals approximately 32 New Taiwan Dollars. This can and will fluctuate according to several factors during your job in Taiwan including the local and global economies. Keep in mind that prices are low in Taiwan and your salary will rank among top professionals while there.
Teaching in Asia always suggests that you keep a minimum amount of currency on you in the case of emergency. We suggest keeping half of it in your shoe in the case you are pick pocketed.
