Drama and Movies

Dramas are perhaps more popular in Korea then in the west with literally dozens of "soaps" and sitcoms playing. Sometimes they will play with English subtitles on Arirang which is the local English Channel for foreigners residing in Korea. They range from political dramas to romantic pieces so there is a little something for everyone to enjoy.

Movies are extremely popular in Korea, with the Korean movie industry giving rise to the so called Korean Wave all over Asia. Some movies have achieved international recognition including Taeguki, Oldboy, and JSA. Watching these before you leave can give you something to talk about with your fellow Korean teachers when you arrive.
