Extra Work in China

China has one of the largest pay disparities between foreign teachers and domestic teachers of any of the countries we place teachers for. This can create rifts between domestic faculty and foreign ESL staff. One way to avoid this and to build productive relationships with your coworkers is to be motivated and eager to develop the school's potential.

This may seem like extra work, but keep in mind that your hours are already the shortest in the school for the other staff. You will have more free time, more money, and less responsibility then any of the domestic teachers. Offering to help a local coworker can go a long way in developing a mutually beneficial relationship with them. You will find them more willing to assist you both with matters in your job at school as well as outside of your teaching responsibilities.
