Geography

China is roughly the same size as the United States and lies upon the same contour as well. With a widely diversified landscape, China has mountains, rivers, beaches, deserts, and just about any other type of land description available. It is important to know that in China the people differ as much as the landscape and this is largely a result of the geographic conditions they were brought up in.

China has vast amounts of inhospitable land, especially in the western parts of the country. The northern tract contains the deserts as well which are basically devoid of life and nature. These are extremely undeveloped as compared to the Eastern parts. Some famous geographic points in western China include the Tibetan Plateau and the Taihang Mountains. Travelling in these remote areas is difficult and can be dangerous if on your own. It is best to join specific tours that are visiting these areas then to simply backpack it.

On the Eastern side of China you have a much more developed urban landscape which includes some of the most densely populated cities in the world. With its beaches and mighty rivers China’s east side is definitely the place to be for the rookie tourist.

Teachers in China after a few years do tend to stray out and see the farther regions as they become comfortable with travelling and their own knowledge of Chinese customs and habits. Chinese geography consists of some of the most beautiful forests, pristine beaches, and mighty mountains the world has to offer. Make the most of your ESL Teaching experiences and see it all.
